Hosting - What is free hosting?

Free hosting is just like any other hosting, with the exception that it costs nothing to host your website. No monthly charges, etc.

However, free hosting can come with strings attached. For example, you may be required to display advertising about their free hosting service on every page of your website. This is ok if your website is about a hobby or about your family, but it won't look professional on a business site.

I would not recommend using free hosting for any type of online business. First of all, you may not be allowed to run CGI scripts and other software on your site. This can be a problem.

Secondly, some free hosting providers don't allow you to use your own domain. You might be restricted to using their domain, like:

http://www.freehost.com/users/yoursite

This is hard to remember and not very professional.

So free hosting is perfect for people who create hobby or family related sites, not business sites.
