Hosting - What is collocated hosting? |
||||
|
Collocated hosting is about putting your own server (one that you physically put together and configured) on the premises of a service provider. Collocated hosting is the same as dedicated hosting, except you provide the server (actual computer) - you don't lease it from a hosting company for $50 month and upwards. Think of collocated hosting as running your computer or server in your own office, only it is located in a place designed solely for Internet servers, with fast connections and uplinks, etc. Cost is reduced with collocated hosting because you provide the hardware (hard drive, etc), but expect to pay $30+ monthly to be connected to their network. The disadvantage of collocated hosting is if something goes wrong with your server. Because you set it up a certain way means that someone else is going to find it much harder to debug and fix any problems - this makes collocated hosting expensive if something goes wrong. |
